2011 marks the final year of the WAC as we know it. Oh, it will still be around after the traitors at FresNO State and Nevada leave, along with Hawaii. Afterall the drama we've been through I find myself looking forward to 2012 already. Three years of Boise State fans constantly whining how the Broncos were too good for the WAC, and then the defection of the other three schools just plain wore me out. And after the Mountain West Conference turned us down I really felt disgusted.
Well, I for one am ready to move on. No more grieving for what was or hoping for what might have been. Reality may bite, but it's time to face the music. *It would be great if our Spartans can somehow end the era with an upset win at FresNO State. Now that would make my year! But other than that, I can't wait to see what Texas State and UT San Antonio have to offer in 2012. They both have well known coaches in Dennis Franchione for the Bobcats and Larry Coker with the Roadrunners. And we'll probably have another new WAC member to get the conference up to the eight team FBS minimum by then.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking past the 2011 football season. I do expect our Spartans to do better than last year. Four wins overall would be nice, considering what SJSU has been through the past few years. But I can already picture myself rooting on San Jose State inside the huge 65,000+ seat Alamodome. Go Spartans!
